Hello Creatives, this is Karen from Noodle Goose Games.
From the time we met, Kilby (Co-Founder) and I have been doing things wrong. Yet, things are going more than right. Let me tell you how we got started, the secret to our success so far, and where we're headed.
How we got started the "wrong" way:
"Faux pas" #1: Don't befriend strangers on the internet
First off, Kilby and I met in an online reality game community in which a bunch of adults would get together online and pretend they are on a reality game shows like Survivor, Big Brother or Squid Game. Playing these types of games well typically requires social maneuvering, strategic thinking and endurance.
"Faux pas" #2: Don't go into business with your friend (internet or otherwise).
I think the key to our partnership is that Kilby and I have a deep respect for each others' lives and projects outside of the company. We also respect each others' strengths and weaknesses/limitations, and had knew what those were before starting the business. This was mostly possible due to our existing friendship and trust. From the outset, we had drafted and signed an business agreement, which we redrafted and re-signed as the business evolved to ensure it would be sustainable and successful.
"Faux pas" #3: Don't turn your passion into a business
We built the business first and dealt with the majority of the administrative tasks that creatives find extremely unattractive as soon as possible. This allowed us to catapult ourselves and spew all of our passionate, chaotic, impulsive and creative energy all over our local industry. It was exciting for both us and all the people we met.
Our studio is founded on the following values: fun, cleverness and creativity. We can act on those things without much delay these days jumping off points already exist or are within reach to take fast action.
The industry seems to be rewarding us after having mined the gold out of these "wrongs" and forged them into an unstoppable golden (noodle) goose. We look forward to sharing our upcoming projects with you all.
Up next: We will talk about one of my favourite videos of all time that form the foundation of our philosophy as a creative media and game company.
